Stop and Stare

I loved the song “Apologize” by OneRepublic featuring Timbaland. But after a while it’s been overplayed, and am a bit sick of it now. When I heard the second single by OneRepublic… I totally loved it! It has a real haunting melody that tugs at my heartstrings.

Stop And Stare by OneRepublic

This town is colder now, I think it’s sick of us
It’s time to make our move, I’m shakin off the rust
I’ve got my heart set on anywhere but here
I’m staring down myself, counting up the years
Steady hands, just take the wheel…
And every glance is killing me
Time to make one last appeal… for the life I lead

Stop and stare
I think I’m moving but I go nowhere
Yeah I know that everyone gets scared
But I’ve become what I can’t be, oh
Stop and stare
You start to wonder why you’re ‘here’ not there
And you’d give anything to get what’s fair
But fair ain’t what you really need
Oh, can u see what I see

They’re tryin to come back, all my senses push
Un-tie the weight bags, I never thought I could…
Steady feet, don’t fail me now
Gonna run till you can’t walk
But something pulls my focus out
And I’m standing down…

Stop and stare
I think I’m moving but I go nowhere
Yeah I know that everyone gets scared
But I’ve become what I can’t be, oh
Stop and stare
You start to wonder why you’re here not there
And you’d give anything to get what’s fair
But fair ain’t what you really need
Oh, you don’t need

What u need, what u need…

Stop and stare
I think I’m moving but I go nowhere
Yeah I know that everyone gets scared
But I’ve become what I can’t be
Oh, do u see what I see…

Here’s the closest copy I can find on Youtube that allows external websites to embed the video:

The clearest copy of this music video on Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zhpqXbndFvQ

Interestingly, found a few self-made music videos done to this song; some are school projects. Here’s a pretty decent one:

Oh, and of course, OneRepublic’s Official Website.

I think I may be becoming a fan. As soon as I find out the band members’ names, of course.

New line dance by Mei Ling

I just learnt a new line dance from my former line dance teacher, Mei Ling. She choreographed it herself! It’s a pretty fun dance. Goodness, I haven’t touched line dance for years. Well.. competition pieces don’t count because I learn them for the comps, not for the fun of it. Hehe.

Here’s her choreography in action:

Yeah, yeah, one of them’s me… Quite honestly I don’t like watching myself dance. I see too many technical errors :P

My best Physics results – ever!

The SPM results were released yesterday.

Physics topped the list of the Science subjects – there were 100% passes (which were expected). What I didn’t expect was the percentage of As. Today the school finally released the actual statistics… Physics had 71% A’s!!!

This was a big jump from previous results… Physics had 59% As last year, 47% the year before.

To be very honest, I hadn’t even expected to beat last year’s results. I thought that I might be able to just maintain the percentage, or maybe even suffer a slight drop. It’s not because of the students. It’s because I felt the percentage was too high to beat. Hehe. I think I’ve proven the Adidas slogan. Impossible is nothing.

I didn’t bring my camera yesterday, but some of my students did. Kristina sent me the photo I took with her and her friends:

Me with some of my students on the day SPM results were released
Me with my A-students: Yiling, Janelle, me, Chooi Ying, Meena, Kristina, Szeyi.
Only Chooi Ying didn’t take Physics (but she still has her A’s).
I think I’m going to miss this batch. I always miss my students.I still remember the batch before last year – that’s the batch with Berlin, Sue Ching, Suzana, Ida, Zhen Chien, Dawson, and so many more I can’t list out. It’s weird. When I first came in to the school, I was stepping in after two Physics teachers who both had left in the first semester. When I came in, I could feel the resentment emanating from the students. It was evident in their faces and in every move they made: the question was, “Is this teacher going to stay?”

Well, stay I did. All the way until they finished their SPM. I think I drove them nuts in Form 4. I not only had to whip them into shape, but I also had to win their confidence. I gave them impossible questions in class (well not really impossible; they found it impossible to answer until I showed them the answers – which were so easy!) and made them pull their hair out during their exams and their trials. And when they sat for their actual SPM, they’d stare at the questions in disbelief, and triple-check their answers, because … “Huh? So easy wan ah?”

As Matthew Pang would say, “The questions are so easy that we’d doubt our answers.” Matthew is from last year’s batch. I drove them equally as nuts, because I found that my method worked. The same thing happened, only more so. Many of my students would stream out from the examination hall during the actual SPM early, claiming that the papers were too easy. I was the one who was panicking, because the students streaming out were not the guaranteed A-scorers, based on my trials results.

I take that back. They got their A’s.

Some of my students (from all batches) have told me that they like Physics now when they didn’t before, and those are the most heartwarming words I could ever hear. And, they have even gone on to take Physics at a higher level. I’m glad I touched my students in some small way, whether or not they realise it, whether or not they appreciate it.

71% A’s! BEAT THAT!!!

I’m number 5 in Google search rankings for “American Idol”!!!

I checked my Google Webmaster Tools and found out that I’m number 5 in Google search rankings for “American Idol”!!! I think it’s because of my homepage. Pretty neat, eh? But you have to type “american idol” (with the quote marks). Otherwise my website won’t turn up on the first page.

Unfortunately that hasn’t brought me anything. I checked my Google Adsense and I have a grand total of …. (drumroll) US$1.42! Woohooo!!!

Well I’m not expecting anything actually because I know not many people check out my website because it’s a personal website. Only my students check it out (sigh).

In other news, the Opposition has won Selangor!

I don’t know much about politics but I think that BN has brought it upon themselves this time. They’ve overpromoted and overcampaigned. It’s not that the people are very pro-Opp… they’re just anti-BN. To be very honest, I would have considered supporting BN if they hadn’t gone overboard with the advertisements on the newspapers, radio, TV and billboards.

Sports House Trivia

Has anyone ever noticed that:

Red has 3 letters
Blue has 4 letters
Green has 5 letters
Yellow has 6 letters

Interesting, eh? It crossed my mind because I was watching the cheerleaders practice over the past 1.5 months up to Sports Day on Thursday, 6th March.
