Su & Sue
Of course I didn’t forget you!
I went out for dinner with Suzana and Sue Ching the other night. Suzana and Sue Ching were my students from the Form 5 batch of 2006. Suzana still remembers me, surprise, surprise
OK, not really a surprise. Sue Ching of course remembers me as she is still a student in Sri KDU.
Bad news for you, Ee Ping. You were not my first shadow in school…

We went to Kenny Roger’s at the Curve for dinner. To my recommendation, embarrassingly. I say embarrassing because the service was horrible, the food was cold, and even though it was written “Fountain beverage”, the beverages were not free-flowing. When I first asked for a refill, one of the waiters just turned his back on me, and when I asked another, he said that according to his manager, they cannot be refilled. I only suggested that place because the last time I ate there, it was pretty good. But then, that was quite a while ago. I’m anti-Kenny Rogers from now on.
But in spite of the bad food and service, the company was good
I even got a present from Suzana!
Sunway Lagoon Photos are up!
After 5 days, I’ve finally managed to complete the upload of the photos of the Sunway Lagoon trip! Curse you, Maxis Broadband for giving me so many problems. Streamyx didn’t give any problems at all.
You can view them here and here.

The beginning of something new
It’s June. It feels odd, having left my teaching career behind. I gave Sri KDU three years of my life. There were good times, and there were also not so good times, but I can safely say that teaching at Sri KDU was a highly memorable chapter in my life. Within those three years, I learnt so much, and I’m not talking only from an academic point of view. I learnt a lot about administration, dealing with people, politics in a workplace, but mainly I learnt a lot about myself. I’ve discovered talents I never knew I had, and developed skills I couldn’t have at any other place. But more importantly, I met a lot of people and I made a lot of new friends, some of whom are my best friends and will continue to be my best friends.
But what I never realised was how much I’ve touched people, too. I was so focused on myself, learning as much as I could and discovering as much as I could, observing how people dealt with me and how people have touched my life, that I never realised the impact that I had on people, too. Some of my friends and students nearly cried on my last day at the school; maybe they did when my back was turned. I had a plethora of gifts and cards, many of them from unexpected sources (and one really weird card – that’s from the 4 of you, you know who you are! LT,WR,GG,MY). Some of my former students in past years even came back to the school to see me before my last day – and gave me lovely cupcakes. Yummmmmm! (Ida, here’s the photo you’ve been waiting for…)

In addition, some of my students even invited me to join them for a day out at Sunway Lagoon. Yeah I know. I’m old. But I still had loads of fun with them
Thanks, 4 Dickens. I had a great time. Photos can be viewed here and here… but as of right now they’re still incomplete because for some reason I’m having problems uploading to Facebook
Here’s a preview though… hallelujah for waterproof cameras!

Mid-year marks are posted!!
After a long wait… your mid-year marks have finally been posted!
I see that some of you didn’t receive the tips. I’m glad to know that. But anyway the marking was done in my usual fashion, tips or no tips. OK it was a little stricter this time, but hey, I need to let the Hoo legacy live on…
I’ll be posting the answer scheme soon. Let me clean it up first before I put it online.
In other news, allow me to apologise first for your Progress Reports. Yes, I completed them, but here’s the story. In my second last week, before the Physics paper, I was trying to finish all my other paperwork so that the last week could be spent on just the marking. In case you didn’t know, Progress Reports are a MAJOR HEADACHE; more so for me because I try to type and write comments based on each individual. I could sometimes spend days writing reports just for one class, because I’m thinking of what to write.
This time I took the opportunity of scribbling comments on paper during invigilation, and I spent only an hour per class typing them all up based on my comments. Shhh. Don’t let Mrs Chan or Ms Susan know this. XD
UNFORTUNATELY, I DELETED THE FILE!!!
What an @$$, right?! I was backing all the data from the school laptop into my hard drive, and I thought I already had a copy. Unfortunately, I didn’t, so I had to RETYPE THE WHOLE THING. FOR ALL FOUR CLASSES.
Erm, I took the easy way out of using same comments then. I prepared a few standard sets for those with different grades and different behaviour in class, so you’ll find that your comments will be the same as the next person’s. I think I individualised some, but even so most of it will be the same.
All I can say is… thank God I don’t have to do Progress Reports anymore!!
