Back in August last year, while I was searching for more runs to run, I was looking for at least one 10km run a month. At that time, 10km was all I could manage… or so I thought.

So when I found the Multi-Purpose Insurans Run to be held on 4 January 2015, I decided to sign up for 12km. I was nervous about it, but I thought that over the next few months, I would be able to eventually do it. However, by the time this was not my first 12km.

POSTPONEMENT OF MPIB RUN 2015

The Multi-Purpose Insurans Berhad (MPIB) run was scheduled to be on the first Sunday of the year. In fact, it was so popular that the event had met its quota way before its deadline in November.

However, suddenly in December, MPIB was forced to announce the postponement of the run from 4th to 11th January 2015. At the very last minute Kuala Lumpur City Hall decided to organise car-free city days on the first Sunday of every month starting from January. To make this work, MPIB had no choice but to postpone the run they had been planning for months to a week later.

MPIB had to offer refunds for the participants who would not be able to make the new date; but they also reopened registration to allow other participants to sign up to fill in the space of the participants who withdrew. Farah had initially missed the deadline; but because of this postponement, she was able to sign up!

RACE PACK COLLECTION

Farah went to help me collect my race pack, in exchange for my picking up the race pack for the Newton Challenge for her. I had to wait in line for an hour in Paradigm Mall to pick up the Newton Challenge race packs; she had to wait 1.5 hours in Lot 10 for this. Although there were several counters handling the collection, there were so many people that the line looped around the centre court, and then some.

RUN DAY 11 JANUARY 2015

The run on 4th January was supposed to be just before the first day of school term. Ironically the start of school term was also postponed one week later – but that was because of the unfortunate floods which hit our fellow citizens on the east coast. However, with the postponement came a lot of adjusting and shift in my plans. I had initially considered withdrawing from the run because I didn’t think I would be able to run, but in the end I decided to stick to it, and just go really slow.

So go slow I did. I only finished in 1h41m.

The run was actually quite well-organised, and the goodie bag was not too shabby. Overall, it was a great job by MPIB.
